That explains a lot...

According to Fox News, conservatives are happier than liberals and here's why:

Individuals with conservative ideologies are happier than liberal-leaners, and new research pinpoints the reason: Conservatives rationalize social and economic inequalities.
The research looks sort of interesting.

That's pretty incredible, and (seemingly) incredibly accurate.

I mean, that theory alone completely justifies the existence of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and their ilk.

I would call myself fairly liberal. I would also call myself fairly happy. However, my happiness is not such that it ignores the unhappiness of other, rather that I work for progress as much as I can, and find my own contentment where I can.

I don't like labelling people or groups generally, but I can completely picture the type of people that this study is profiling. On the one hand there are the conservatives out there who ignore that which is not directly approaching their suburban doorsteps. On the other hand are the rebels with a cause--or many causes, probably. The liberal-minded people who are so touched and moved and inspired and depressed and angered by they myriad injustices of the world that they take each one on as a personal quest for redemption. These are the ones who yell at you if you don't show the same emotion when they quote statistics at you.

That sounds a bit harsh, I realize, but suffice to say that I had a few bad experiences with some of my more liberal associations.

So, it appears we're either escapist or depressed. Fantastic.

There is another way...you might call it a "Middle Way".

And all that Eightfold Path stuff, right?

Indeed.
